Felbridge™ family of no-nonsense typefaces has many uses and few limitations. It’s proven itself in a wide diversity of applications, from text copy, display headlines and logotypes, to Web pages and corporate identity. Now, new weights, an expanded character set and additional language support make Felbridge an even more powerful graphic communicator.
“The design grew out of experiments to develop an ideal typeface for use in Web design and electronic media,” comments Robin Nicholas, the family’s designer. “I wanted a straightforward sans serif with strong, clear letterforms that wouldn’t degrade in low resolution environments.” An added benefit is that these traits also make for a design that performs exceptionally well in traditional print applications.
Felbridge was originally released as a family of four roman weights (Light, Regular, Bold and Extra Bold) with complementary italics for the Regular and Bold designs. Nicholas has now built on this robust foundation, adding new Thin and Black weights, plus an italic complement for the existing Light weight. OpenType Pro fonts of Felbridge contain three stylistic sets that provide alternatives for “serifed legibility characters” like the ‘I,’ ‘j’ and ‘i,’ in addition to a bowl-and-loop ‘g’ that can replace the single bowl design. Felbridge now offers both lining and old style figures; its extended character set supports most Central European and many Eastern European languages. All told, these are great enhancements.
