ITC Orbon was inspired in part by a demo of Blackletter calligraphy in which an array of letters were created out of four or five basic strokes. I combined that idea with the notion of taking historical forms like German gothic blackletter and progressively paring them down to achieve a futuristic version - as if this old form naturally evolved over several hundred years to arrive at its post-modern incarnation, explains James Montalbano. The resulting design, ITC Orbon, is a highly condensed face with a unique, oblong shape that is powerful at display sizes. Montalbano also points out that because the face is so tight, you can afford to set text at a slightly larger-than-usual size (of say, 20 point) to maintain legibility. ITC Orbon is available in light, regular, bold and black. From his studio in New York City, Terminal Design Inc., James Montalbano does custom type work - creating new designs and tailor existing ones - for high profile magazines like Gourmet, GQ, and Vanity Fair.

The numbers above, preceded by "#", in the "Text Color:" and "Background:"
fields, are "Hex" values. Short for Hexadecimal, Hex is a color model used
within HTML and other Web programming languages. Just as printers work
primarily within CMYK, and scanners, monitors and digital cameras work within
RGB, Web pages work within Hex. Colors in the RGB palette have Hex equivalents,
so if you need to find a Hex value for a particular RGB color, try specifying
the RGB value in your design application. There's a good chance it will display
the Hex equivalent for you. When used in HTML, Hex colors are denoted by a "#"
followed by a series of six letters or numbers like this: #93DB70.
