ITC Silvermoon was inspired by the handwritten headlines in a fashion magazine of the 1930s, says designer Akira Kobayashi. I wanted to design a very thin, almost fragile, display type to match illustrations such as Erte's. He gave his typeface the long, vertical movement of Art Deco illustrations or architecture. To achieve the elegance of this fashionable period, I made the letterforms very slim, and added a curlicue to some letters, such as O, a, and m, he says. The flow of the curlicue softens the overall look of the typeface. The regular weight is monoline, a single thin stroke, but for the bold Kobayashi added dramatic shading to create contrast between thick and thin strokes, to go with less high-key illustrations and photos.

The numbers above, preceded by "#", in the "Text Color:" and "Background:"
fields, are "Hex" values. Short for Hexadecimal, Hex is a color model used
within HTML and other Web programming languages. Just as printers work
primarily within CMYK, and scanners, monitors and digital cameras work within
RGB, Web pages work within Hex. Colors in the RGB palette have Hex equivalents,
so if you need to find a Hex value for a particular RGB color, try specifying
the RGB value in your design application. There's a good chance it will display
the Hex equivalent for you. When used in HTML, Hex colors are denoted by a "#"
followed by a series of six letters or numbers like this: #93DB70.
