ITC Humana

ITC HumanaDesigned by Timothy Donaldson, the ITC Humana® typeface family is an immensly versatile suite of typefaces with an unusual array of variations. Donaldson, a self-taught type designer, began his career as a sign painter and eventually gravitated to lettering and typeface design. He initially created the ITC Humana Script typeface with a broad-edged pen. Wondering what a corresponding roman might look like, he started with pencil sketches as a prelude to constructing letters on screen with FontStudio® software.

The result is a family of 12 weights and styles, including light, medium, and bold weights of serif, sans serif and script designs. The serif and sans serif designs each have matching italics that extend the typeface's range and flexibility. The ITC Humana font family is well suited to a variety of uses, especialy in situations where clarity is important, yet a certain friendliness is desired. When used for setting text copy, the serif and sans serif designs remain readable even at small point sizes. At large point sizes, the typeface retains a slightly classical demeanor that never has to scream for attention. The ITC Humana Script font has the distinctly calligraphic, handwritten look that Donaldson started with, and works comfortably with the other styles while adding an extra amount of charm to this truly "super" family.
