Goudy Ornate

Goudy Ornate FontGoudy Ornate

Frederic Goudy designed Goudy Ornate in 1931. In his words, “it is a simple, decorative face that has been used by some good presses for use on title pages where the size of the type was more important than the blackness of line.” The original version was based on letters Goudy cut out of paper to decorate a Sunday school classroom in Shelbyville, Illinois.

This digital revival was created by Steve Matteson and Carl Crossgrove for use as a titling companion to Truesdell and Goudy Modern, two other Goudy designs. Goudy Ornate is also ideally suited for initial letters and the short phrases found on greeting cards.
