Martin Wait

Description

“Looking back, lettering and type design was probably a strange career choice,” says Martin Wait. “I’m color-blind and dyslexic.” The career choice may have been strange but, with over two-dozen popular display type designs and many logotypes to his credit, it was certainly the right one.

“I began designing type for Letraset,” Martin recalls. “I sent them a sketch for an typeface design – which they rejected. They liked my handlettering, however, and my first typefaces were based on previous lettering jobs.” Martin was hooked – and has been designing typefaces and creating logotypes ever since. His logos clients are as diverse as Tetley’s (tea), Radio Times (BBC) and Alpen (a Weetabix cereal).

Martin lives and works in Essex, England, where, when he is not working on corporate identity projects or a typeface design, he can usually be found staring through the business end of a high-powered telescope or golf club. Martin is also an amateur astronomer and avid golfer. You can see some of his web design work at the Turrock Astronomy Web site.
