In the early 1800’s, slab serif – also known as Egyptian – typeface designs were in vogue among typesetters and publishers. The Memphis design, by Dr. Rudolf Wolf in 1929, was one of the initial revival designs released during another surge of slab serif popularity in the “jazz” age.
