Lanston Monotype was the original company formed by Tolbert Lanston, inventor of the Monotype machine. Lanston Type eventually parted ways from the English Monotype division. Today Monotype has a presence in the U.S. and U.K. and is one of the foundries owned and operated by Monotype Imaging.
