Lab Sans Pro is a geometric sans serif which mixes a structure with some calligraphic influences, as seen in its oblique terminals which are skewed 3 degrees, with a completely geometrical skeleton which gives an interesting technological and minimalist look.
Lab Sans History
The Lab Sans™ Pro design is the first project by Tiponautas, an international type designers collective founded by Luis Alonso (Spain), Charlie Zinno (Argentina) and Ricardo Santos (Portugal). Luis Alonso and Ricardo Santos started to work on this project in September of 2009 with an experimental aim, but with the idea of creating a versatile and functional geometric sans serif typeface. The name of the typeface was also inspired by the same experimental concept and was also the first project in which they started to develop a team methodology, working together from different countries.
Lab Sans Pro is suitable for use in large sizes and has eight versatile weights, from thin to black. Its italic letterforms are neither slant nor oblique; they contain some of the geometric style of the main version, but also some calligraphic details that benefit and balance the readability and legibility of the different characters.
Lab Sans Pro is an OpenType® Pro font, which allows the automatic insertion of a large range of characters to improve different typographical solutions such as small caps characters, old style, titling and small caps figures, fractions, superior and inferior scripts, scientific components, ligatures or stylish alternates.
The complete Lab Sans Pro Family includes 16 typefaces, ranging from thin to black with their respective italic versions and offers an extended character set, supporting most of Central European and also Eastern European languages.
