What is the Fonts.com Web Fonts Extension for Adobe Photoshop?

The fonts.com Web fonts extension for Adobe Photoshop enables users to easily design and preview their creative prototypes and proofs using the best selection of Web fonts. The intent and purpose of the extension is to make the creative design and prototype workflow easier and thus, the Web fonts cannot be used for production content, only client proofs and prototypes. To enable the Web fonts in your proofs and prototypes for production, simply publish your project from your account on fonts.com.

The extension automatically syncs with your projects on fonts.com and enables you to create new projects directly within the extension, or on the portal. With the extension, you can even take your Photoshop workflow offline! The extension supports Adobe Photoshop CS5 and up.

Using the Fonts.com Web Fonts Extension for Adobe Photoshop Web Fonts Placeholder List Image

  • Download and install the extension.
  • Launch Adobe Photoshop and create a new document, or open an existing file.
  • Under the Window menu, select Extensions > WebFonts. This will launch the extension panel.
  • You will need to login to the extension with your Fonts.com credentials. Upon your initial login, the extension will sync your projects and make them available within the extension user interface.
  • To apply a Web font, select a text layer. You can apply a Web font from any of your projects by selecting the “Projects” tab. Select your project via the drop down list and double click on the Web font that you would like to apply.
  • If you would like to try a Web font that is not already in one of your projects, select the “Fonts” tab and use the search box or filters to find the font you would like to use. Select the font that you would like to apply by clicking on “+” to add the font family to your project. Additionally, you can click on “>” to expand the font family; then double click on the font that you would like to apply.

Yes. Upon your initial sign in to the extension, it will take a few minutes to sync with your existing projects and fonts in your Fonts.com account. After this initial sync, the extension will sync with your online account on an automatic or manual basis. Return to top

Can I use the extension in a disconnected environment?

Absolutely. We understand that despite our connected environments today, there will be times where you will have to operate in offline environments. All your projects and fonts within your projects will be accessible for your creative design process while offline. Return to top

May I use the Web fonts from the extension to produce commercial or production level content?

The Fonts.com Web fonts extension for Photoshop enables you to easily design and preview your creative prototypes and proofs using the best selection of Web fonts. The purpose of the extension is to make the creative design and prototype workflow easier and thus, the Web fonts MAY NOT be used for production content, only client proofs and prototypes. Fonts used in your Photoshop project will generate a token ID that will reference the font on our server for your production level content.Return to top

May I use the extension with other Creative Suite tools?

At this time, the Fonts.com Web fonts extension only supports Adobe Photoshop CS5 and up. We are planning support for additional Creative Suite products in future releases. Return to top

What’s the difference between FontGazer and the Fonts.com Web fonts extension for Photoshop?

FontGazer is a plug-in for Adobe InDesign that enables you to try out new desktop fonts while designing. You can also purchase and install your fonts without ever leaving InDesign, allowing you to get back to designing. Fonts purchased using the FontGazer plug-in may be used for print media and desktop applications. They are NOT Web fonts. The Fonts.com Web fonts extension for Photoshop enables you to design and preview your creative prototypes and proofs using Web fonts. Fonts are NOT available for purchase within this extension nor can they be used for print mediums or desktop applications. To license the Web fonts used in the creative prototypes and proofs, you must select and publish the Web font from your Fonts.com account online. Return to top

How do I apply a Web font?

First, make sure you are not currently editing your text, and then select any text layer. To apply a font, simply double-click your choice in the the extension dialog. Once you apply a font, it can be found in Photoshop's font list until you close Photoshop. Return to top

Why are some fonts “Not Available?”

Many fonts are already available through the Fonts.com Web Fonts extension, but some, unfortunately, are not at this time. We are currently working with designers and foundries to make more fonts available. Return to top

System Requirements

The Fonts.com Web Fonts extension works with the Adobe Creative Suite 5, 5.x and 6.x. For Windows, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions are supported, but only one can be installed on a device.

Known Issues (Build 41)

  • Some fonts may appear as dingbats or as other symbols instead of their own name. In this case, mouse over the font or click on 'i' to find out the font's name and other information.
