Alfred Tilp
Alfred Tilp, born in 1932, completed an apprenticeship in lithography before studying at the art academies in Stuttgart, Duesseldorf and Berlin. Major influence, Walter Brudi in Stuttgart. Identifies himself primarily as a typographer but is also active as a freelance artist and has recently done work with computer graphics (Website TilpArt.de). Numerous exhibitions and personal shows. Books about art, poetry. Publications, recently in "Baseline”. Music experiments.
Teacher since 1964, first at the Werkkunstschule Mainz, then the Fachhochschule Rheinland-Pfalz, and later at the Fachhochschule Wuerzburg. Professor since 1973, retired in 1996. Typeface design since 1967.
