Dr. Andréground or rather, André Themoteo Alves Corrêa under this pseudonym, is a Creative Type-Designer & Graphic Artist, from Rio de Janeiro (b. 1986). Inspired by Gestalt “Image Science”, Optical Illusions, Impossible Perspectives, 4D Theories, Kinetics, Holographs, Geometric Patterns, and tessellation, also backgrounded by Underground and Hip-Hop. Indeed, some of my typographic skills came from writing Graffiti, although lately in another mission and a new chapter.
Actually, not really a doctor and far from a Ph.D. That’s only my Designer name! Who, by the way, hasn’t graduated, left a Graphic Design degree unfinished, after studying at UniverCidade and UCAM in Ipanema. However, intending further to course Architecture. Since coming across a path of decorative inventions in the Sacred Geometry field, or an authorial work in between of angles and perspective, patterns, and graphics, in the Escheresque genre, that still kind of partially uncovered.
In the meanwhile, I have over 10 years of experience in the making of fonts, since starting with ‘Penrose Geometric’ in 2013. An homage to “Impossible Figures” plus, master’s Penrose’s, MC Escher & Oscar Reutersvärd which came from an Academic Alphabet Project, when encouraged to make Real Typefaces, since then started a Foundry which the name was kind of lent and got obsolete, then I got to unattach MMC with Typodrome and relaunch in 2021 as MMC-TypEngine.
Apart from this, it was summed along the years by a growing collection of Typefaces which is still kind in starting stage yet, and a pile of upcoming projects, that basically has in common a geometric emphasis, like Solving Puzzles, plus had designed a few logos as a freelancer too and kept secret studies in the same impetus. Started his ‘Artistic Lettering Experience’ as a youngster by doing ‘graffiti’... Afterward studied Graphic Design at ‘UniverCidade’ a famous bankrupted College in Ipanema-Rio, when came into a turning point while presenting an A+ Grade alphabet ‘Penrose Geometric’ in homage to “Impossible Figures” in typography classes, was encouraged to make a real Typeface and started a career with fonts circa one or two years later after in 2013.
By the way, there is a collection of upcoming Typefaces hidden, under development projects, and some new font releases, its further inspirations are connected by Geometric rhythms and genres 'factor', based on Mechanical Modularity and Calculus, or the ‘MMC Concept’ a Math Type Style! Plus, looking into the future to publish some miscellanea fonts and to perform some more fundamental or traditional aesthetics Typography.
