Richard Austin

Trained with Thomas Bewick as a wood engraver, Richard Austin cut fine punches for John Bell’s foundry in London from 1788 to 1796, Alexander Wilson in Glasgow, and William Miller in Edinburgh. The Miller types known as Scotch Romans have been attributed to Austin. He returned to London and in 1819 set up the Imperial Letter Foundry.
