Jim Ford

Jim Ford’s Beefcakes™ typeface is a big, high-spirited design that’s sure to grab attention. Its letterforms are dense and sturdy – but soft as a pillow. Advertising headlines, cover art, menus, packaging and posters are all in Beefcakes’ anthology. While not intended for small venues, big type in web sites and games are naturals for Beefcakes friendly forms.

Inspired by large hand-painted paper signs advertising daily specials in storefront windows, Beefcakes™ emulates "big brush” style lettering – with a contemporary twist. The suite of Beefcakes fonts is available as all-caps designs with small caps, in roman, italic and shadow flavors. As a nod to the typeface’s inspiration, Beefcakes fonts also include a set of decorative abbreviations (lb, oz, kg, in, etc.) for bold signage and showcard-style displays.

The roman design makes powerful statements – with a twinkle in its eye. The italic creates immediacy and Beefcakes Shadow is a natural for color. The result is three designs with a surprisingly large repertoire. Beefcakes will also pair with just about any text typeface. A light and lively handwriting script, like Andy™ or ITC Bradley Hand™, will complement its casual vibe, while a sturdy geometric sans serif, like Avenir® Next or Slate™ creates a stunning contrast. Pair Beefcakes with just about any serif typeface and you’ll have a dynamic typographic counterpoint.
