Legende was originally designed by Friedrich Hermann Ernst Schneidler for the Bauer foundry. Historically, this typeface design is judged to be the highlight of Schneidler’s cooperation with Bauer. The project was very intensive and time-consuming. It took Schneidler years to finish ‘his’ Legende. His target was quite ambitious and nothing less than the creation of a typeface reflecting the art of handwriting and calligraphy in the standardized medium of a printer font. And he succeeded: Legende is indeed a spontaneous, ephemeral script with intriguingly differently looking but identical characters at the same time. In reminescence to the good old times, Ralph M. Unger redrew, completed and digitized this font exclusively for profonts in 2003. His work is based on artwork taken from old font catalogues.
