Installing PostScript Fonts on Windows 7

Fonts.com highly recommends that customers back up all purchases onto CD, flash drive, external hard drive or other means. Monotype Imaging’s end user license agreement entitles customers to retain one backup copy to assist in the event that data is lost.

To install your font, please follow each step listed below. PostScript fonts cannot be installed via the “drag and drop” method. Windows 7 requires that all PostScript fonts include a PFM file for installation. Not all PostScript fonts include PFM files. To determine if a postscript font includes a PFM file, search for the font on Fonts.com. Select the font and locate the “Technical Details” Tab.

Search the screen for the “Windows – Postscript” details. If the .PFM file is listed under “File Name(s)”, the font is compatible with Windows 7.

Begin by downloading and saving your font data file to a location that is easy for you to access. We recommend downloading to your desktop.

Step 1: Extract your fonts from the .zip file

The zip file on your desktop will look like the sample below:

1. Right click on the zip file.
2. Left click “Extract All” from the menu.
3. Select a destination to extract your files by left clicking the “Browse” button.
4. Left click on “Desktop”.
5. Left click on “OK”.
6. The “Select a destination” screen will pop up again. Left click “Extract”.
7. Close any open windows and return to the desktop.
8. A folder now exists on the desktop named “Purchased_Fonts”.
9. Find and open the folder within the “Purchased_Fonts” named “Windows-PostScript”.
10. Double left click on the Type 1 font file. The file should display the following icon in front of it:
11. A new window will open that shows a preview of the font. Left Click on the “Install” button.
12. A pop-up will appear that says “Windows needs your permission to continue”.
13. Select “Continue”.
14. The font selected is now installed. Confirm installation by opening your control panel.
15. Open the “Fonts” folder.
16. Search for the font that has just been installed.
17. Some programs require a system reboot to show fonts in the drop down menu. Fonts.com recommends rebooting your system upon completion of the installation process.
